Many people claim to be happy. Others aspire for happiness. Everyone wants to be happy. A popular song from the 80's suggests that we shouldn't worry, but be happy.
I suppose it boils down to how a person defines happiness. Some measure happiness by how much money they have, others say it's how many friends they have.
One problem I see with these two scenarios is that when all the money or all the friends have gone, then happiness would be gone too. That kind of happiness is fleeting, temporal.
Yet others are perfectly happy with little in life. People who base their happiness on the material and temporal always have a hard time squaring the happiness of those who have little.
This type of emotion obviously transcends happiness. People need a happiness that lasts until the very end, and beyond. It's called joy.
